Ideagro participates in a project granted by the Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia. This Project is named “The Reduction of Nitrates Contribution Through the Use of Environmental Nitrogen Fixing Organisms” and “Research on the reduction of Fertilizers and Fitopatogen Fungi through microorganisms (MICRORG16)”

In 2017 Ideagro was granted with a an aid program addressed to companies dedicated to the promotion of I+D, this program was financed the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia. Ideagro carried out different research regarding the isolation and characterization of plant growth promoting microorganisms in order to reduce the deposition of fertilizers and chemical compost, in particular through the reduction of nitrates. Therefore the microorganisms on which the study will be based will be those with the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen, and whose habitat is in Spain, preferably in the Region of Murcia. This program was developed by Ideagro until the end of 2018.

As explained in the report “Research and Innovation Strategy for the Intelligent Specialization of the Region of Murcia” the priorities for the Region of Murcia are structured around those activities in which Murcia has a clear leadership, such as those related to the agrofood alimentary chain, in which we include the nuclear activities of agriculture, as well as those related to the water cycle,(treatment, filtration and processing), the environment and the logistics and transportation. All these activities, when prioritized in a systematic way, coordinated and transformed by the use of advanced technologies, can offer competitive advantages for the Region of Murcia. The approved project is framed within the priority lines of development of the Region of Murcia in relation to its contribution to the development of sustainable agriculture, favoring a lower use of of agrochemicals on the agricultural exploitation as well as a better use of the atmospheric nitrogen.

In addition this project has a clear effect on the reduction of the environmental impact, thus reducing the water pollution due to the nitrates, and minimizing the eutrophication risk on our aquifers . The research on the use of environmental nitrogen fixing microorganisms and the achievement of the goals proposed on the study implies a decrease on the use of agrochemicals by the farmer, as well as an important cost saving, becoming a competitive advantage for the farmer.
