The Center for Scientific and Technological Research of Extremadura (CICYTEX), a research center that is part of the GO OLEOPRECISIÓN project - Modernization of oilseed cultivation in Spain, organizes a Technical Conference next Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in person at Finca La Orden located in Guadajira (Badajoz).
The day will take place in the meeting center of Finca La Orden and the subsequent technical visit in the field.
The Oleoprecisión operating group is made up of the seed marketing company Sovena Oilseeds Spain, together with Association of Cooperatives Acor, olive chamomile and acopaex, and the support of three research centers: CICYTEX (Extremadura), ITACYL (Castilla León) and IDEAGRO (Murcia). The objective is to improve the sustainability of sunflower cultivation through a multidisciplinary analysis, integrating cultivation techniques, such as irrigation, and precision agriculture technologies to improve crop production, profitability and traceability.
The interest of this project lies in the decrease in the area and production of the oilseed crop in Spain, caused, among other factors, by the low profitability obtained by farmers. This has caused a decrease in raw material in the industrial sector that It has seen the need to import crude oil, sacrificing the traceability of its products, to satisfy the needs of the national market.
In addition, sunflower is a good alternative to other crops in the face of climate change, because it their water needs are much lower than other irrigated crops, such as corn and tomato. Another advantage is its ability to take advantage of nutrients in the soil, thus reducing the chances that they cause aquifer contamination.
